Fans will ove this place – but what about me? I’m an adult without much connect to Kittychan. Can someone like me also love Sanrio Puroland? I’m here to learn about the park and explore – and with me is Jennifer Julien, my cat loving friend who asks the important question: Is Hello Kitty even a cat? (The answer is no, but you know that, right?) We’ll also explore their food court and outrageous blue and pink curry rice dish! The food is all seasonal and the menu changes. Japanese Rental Car Experience: Better than Trains?

イメージ
エピソードタイトル: Japanese Rental Car Experience: Better than Trains? によって生産: ONLY in JAPAN 説明: Driving in Japan is a wonder experience for those who want to escape the touristy areas over-visited by JR Rail Pass holders. Yes, Japan has some of the world’s best trains, but it’s also a big car culture, many of the world’s top car makers based in Japan and the roads here were built for them. Driving a car can be more economical for families and rather than wheeling around suitcases, cars will be able to get your luggage around faster. You aways have a locker to keep your things safe! But is it better than a JR Rail Pass? Depending on what you want to do, I think so. With an international driver’s license, you can get around those scenic roads, stop anywhere you like for a photo or go in your own direction. Away from Tokyo and Osaka, you’ll be surprised a t how spacious Japan really is! Since rental cars all come with English Navigation Systems, you almost ever get lost. Just study some of t...

There are no majors cities out here, just small towns full of delicious food and loads of sports and adventure! That's right, I've escaped the city and rented a car to travel from sea to mountain along this mythical river. Up in the mountains of Yusuhara is where you'll find Rogier Uitenboogaart, a Dutch guy preserving the tradition of Traditional Tosa Washi Paper making. At his studio and Japanese inn, I got a chance to study washi paper making with him, collecting the nature of the Shimanto and adding it to the paper. See what we make! The Shimanto River is the only major river in Japan without a dam, the water flowing from the origin in the mountains to the Pacific Ocean 200km away. Micro Sushi Experience | Tokyo's Smallest Meal ★ ONLY in JAPAN

イメージ
エピソードタイトル: Micro Sushi Experience | Tokyo's Smallest Meal ★ ONLY in JAPAN によって生産: ONLY in JAPAN 説明: Sushi may be Japan's most popular food. There are all kinds of sushi -- high end to cheap, high-tech conveyor belt sushi to supermarket and convenient store sushi. There's nigiri, maki, gunkan, narezushi, temaki ... It's all pretty good and each offers a unique experience, but add this one to the list. Micro Sushi The sliver of fish is rested on a 1/3rd sized grain of rice. My guess is that it's 1/300th the size of normal sushi since the rice is only 30% the size of 1 full grain! It requires special chopsticks to position it and a real challenge for any sushi chef. There's a reason why Chef Yuki Sugeta created Micro Sushi 30 years ago -- and that reason is one I didn't consider! ▶︎ Where is Takasago Sushi 高砂寿司 ? https://goo.gl/maps/bem9KKGeSsPtuXc57 URL: http://www.takasagosushi.co.jp/ It's best to call ahead and reserve. エピソードタイトル: Japanese Mango sold for $5000 - but WHY? ★ ONLY in JAPAN によって生産: ONLY in JAPAN 説明: Japan is famous for it's luxury fruits sold at auction for ridiculous prices! But where does that value come from? Is it all a marketing stunt, or do they really taste that good? We see them in the stores and they're expensive. So ー what is the true value? Let's go to the Miyazaki Mango Auction and ask the buyer of the world's most expensive mango and the farmer. The answer to WHY surprised me. It's not what I thought. We not only learn about mangoes but Japanese culture. Background: Annually at auctions in Japan, the first blue fin tuna sells for over $1 million at New Year, melons in Yubari, Hokkaido sell for $30,000, and in Miyazaki, Mangoes sell for $5,000. How can a mango be worth so much? Is it the taste? The size? The smell? The color? The cultivar? All of the above? ー or just to get attention? ... or is it something more? There is a deep respect for the farmers ...

Japanese Scenic Train Ride Experience in Kyoto ★ ONLY in JAPAN

イメージ
Japanese trains are famous around the world for their style, comfort and speed. In the countryside of Kyoto though, you may not have speed, but you do comfort and style. The Eizan Electric Railway starting at Demachiyanagi Station is a 94 year old line that is evolving fast. Since commuters are decreasing, Keihan Railways has changed the way it designs its trains to attract more tourists. The plan is working and the Eizan Line is super cool. The trains are all “One man” one person operated trains where the driver is also the conductor, taking tickets and payment before letting passengers off. They’re the ultimate multitaskers! In September 2018, a strong typhoon damaged a lot of the Kansai region including Kyoto and the Eizan Line suffered heavy damage. The line was suspended for 90 days, the longest in its history. What’s impressive is that the entire company pitched in to help from the technical staff and construction to the office workers at headquarters. It’s a great example of t...

Highway Rest Area Food Challenge ★ ONLY in JAPAN

イメージ
Japanese Highway Service Areas or Rest Stops are quite amazing and in this episode we’ll look at one of them that has a food challenge! Tomobe SA in Ibaraki Prefecture has a restaurant that has taken the highest mountain in the area and turned it into a dish. Mount Tsukuba is 877 meters high, but as food, it looks steeper and more intimidating. 16 long cuts of grilled pork cutlets smothered in a savory sauce on a bed of shredded cabbage and rice weighing more than 1kg (2.2 lbs). It may not be as big as some food challenges like the 2.2kg (5 lbs) Monster Gyoza in failed to eat in 2014, but it is still an interesting dish. It costs 1700 Yen ($15) for the set with miso soup and some pickles. Eaters can simply order it from a vending machine and it takes about 5-7 minutes to prepare.
